Enhanced Suspension System
Thanks to the MacPherson independent front suspension and intelligent multilink independent rear suspension, the ride in the 2013 Ford Fusion is refined and comfortable. While the suspension provides a smooth ride in straightaways, it also offers a balanced, nimble ride when Ford Fusion takes a corner or curve, providing a positive road feel. You get the optimal blend of ride, handling and comfort. The suspension system also contributes to a quieter cabin, isolating passengers from unwanted road noise.
Intelligent All-Wheel Drive (AWD)
Available Intelligent AWD uses sensors to constantly monitor traction. It balances torque between the front and rear wheels to enhance handling and maximize traction, typically before wheel slip can even occur.
Six-Speed SelectShift Automatic® With Paddle Shifters
You don't have to know how to drive a manual transmission to enjoy the sporty feel of shifting gears. Using race-inspired technology, the available steering wheel-mounted paddles let you easily and quickly go from gear to gear without taking your hands off the wheel. For the Ford Fusion models not equipped with steering wheel paddle shifters, a thumb switch is conveniently positioned on the gear shift knob.
Electric Power-Assisted Steering (EPAS)
Electric power-assisted steering (EPAS) automatically adjusts to deliver precise feel and control at higher speeds, and the required assistance at slower speeds when needed. EPAS features drift control and active nibble control. Drift control technology detects road conditions – such as a crowned road surface or crosswinds – and adjusts the EPAS to compensate. The active nibble control feature uses the EPAS motor to reduce unwanted
vibrations in the steering wheel. The result is a comfortable driving experience and responsive steering.
eCVT Transmission
The new Fusion Hybrid and the Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid powertrain uses an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (eCVT). It is engineered, designed and produced in-house by Ford in an all-new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. The eCVT combines power from the engine and electric motor to deliver power to the wheels when you command it. The Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid can, under certain conditions, operate in all-electrical mode up to 85 mph, allowing the electric motor to power the vehicle, providing maximum efficiency. It also eliminates the noticeable upshifts and downshifts of conventional transmissions, providing a seamless driving experience.
Driving green has never been smarter, or more convenient, thanks to the Fusion Hybrid and the Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid. They’re each powered by a combination high-voltage electric motor and 2.0L Atkinson-cycle I-4 gasoline engine. The state-of-the-art lithium-ion battery pack in the Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid can be fully charged in less than three hours with the available 240-volt outlet. And talk about smart – Auto Start-Stop* turns off the engine down when you come to a stop and seamlessly restarts it when you release the brake. The 2013 Ford Fusion lineup. Driving to be green.
*Standard in Fusion Hybrid and Fusion Energi Plug-In Hybrid models and available 1.6L I-4 EcoBoost® engine.
Fusion Energi Plug-In Hybrid
The new Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid is designed to be efficient, thanks to combining a high-voltage battery and electric motor with a gasoline engine. The high-voltage lithium-ion battery pack provides enough power to operate in all-electric mode for short commutes. Thanks to plug-in capability, you can charge the battery using a 120-volt outlet. Or you can use a 240-volt outlet, upgraded with electric vehicle supply equipment. To lessen any concern you may have about driving range, when the battery is depleted or more power is required, the vehicle functions as a traditional gas-electric hybrid. The Fusion Energi also features a Regenerative Braking System, allowing it to capture kinetic braking energy and store it for later use.
Fusion Hybrid Performance
The Fusion Hybrid maximizes performance. At lower speeds, it can travel in electric mode. When the gas engine does kick in, at higher speeds or when passing or merging, the transition is seamless. The Fusion Hybrid also features visual aids to help you drive more efficiently. The SmartGauge
® with EcoGuide cluster uses dual liquid crystal display (LCD) screens on either side of the center-mounted speedometer. Watch the display grow leaves as your short-term driving efficiency increases. As your long-term driving becomes more efficient, vines and more leaves are displayed. It lets you track the powertrain's operation — hybrid drive, electric drive, gas engine plus instant and average fuel economy.
SmartGauge® with EcoGuide Cluster
Comprised of two dual liquid crystal screens, the innovative EcoGuide gauge cluster in the Fusion Hybrid and Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid provide real-time information to help you optimize efficiency. SmartGauge uses dual liquid crystal display (LCD) screens on either side of the center-mounted speedometer. Watch the display grow leaves as your short-term driving efficiency increases. As your long-term driving becomes more efficient, vines and more leaves are displayed on the right. A tutorial built into the left display lets you choose one of four data screens for the level of information you want — Inform, Enlighten, Engage or Empower — and explains your options within each. Steering wheel-mounted controls make it all easy. All levels can indicate instant fuel economy, fuel economy history, odometer, engine coolant temperature, plus trip data including fuel economy and miles to empty.
Environmentally Conscious Seating
The standard cloth seats in the Fusion Hybrid feature a fabric made with REPREVE
®*— a fiber using 100% recyclable materials that could potentially have otherwise ended up in landfills. In addition, the seat cushions and head restraints use a bio-based polyurethane foam derived from the oils of various plant seeds, such as soybeans.
*REPREVE is a registered trademark of Unifi, Inc.
Regenerative Braking
When you apply the brakes in a conventional vehicle, kinetic energy is lost to heat due to friction. During braking in the Fusion Hybrid and the Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid, however, regenerative braking recovers more than 90 percent of this energy and sends it back to the battery pack to be stored for later use.
Available Auto Start-Stop
With the available Auto Start-Stop, you could save money in fuel costs and reduce vehicle emissions. When the vehicle comes to a stop in city driving, the engine is automatically shut off. The engine seamlessly restarts the instant your foot leaves the brake pedal.
Standard in Fusion Hybrid and Fusion Energi Plug-In Hybrid models and available 1.6L I-4 EcoBoost® engine.
LED Illuminated Charge Port
You’ll always know when your car is fully charged and ready to go. When the connector cord is plugged into the charge port, located between the driver’s door and front wheel well, the port will illuminate in quadrants to indicate its current level of charge. When all four quadrants are illuminated, the vehicle is fully charged and the charging process will cease.
240-Volt Leviton Charging Station
To charge the high-voltage, state-of-the-art lithium-ion battery of Ford plug-in electric vehicles more quickly, Ford recommends that you purchase an optional 240-volt Leviton charging station. Ford teamed up with Leviton, a leading producer of electrical devices, to develop the station which is UL-Listed, weather-resistant, compact and portable--making it easy to take along if you relocate. You won’t have to worry about wiring or installing the charging station on your own either. Ford has also teamed up with the Best Buy® Geek Squad® to take care of the process for you. BLIS® with Cross-Traffic Alert
The available BLIS
® (Blind Spot Information System) with cross-traffic alert helps make driving more convenient. Using radar in the rear quarter panels to identify if a vehicle is detected in your blind spot, you're alerted with an indicator light in the appropriate sideview mirror. Cross-traffic alert uses radar to watch for traffic behind you when you're slowly backing out of a parking spot or your driveway. If cross-traffic sensors detect a vehicle approaching from up to 15 yards away, it sends an audible warning, a visual display in the corresponding mirror and a signal in the message center.
Rear View Camera
Put the gear selector in reverse and the available rear view camera automatically transmits the image of what's behind you to your rearview mirror, when you're slowly backing up. If your Fusion is equipped with the available SYNC
® with MyFord Touch
®, the image is shown on the eight-inch touch screen. The rear view camera is included in the Technology Package, which is optional on the Fusion SE and standard on the Fusion Titanium.
Lane-Keeping System
The Lane-Keeping System includes both the lane-keeping alert and the lane-keeping aid. A camera mounted behind the windshield watches road lane markings to determine vehicle position and detect a lane departure. The system can operate during the day or night.
Lane-keeping alert warns you through a series of steering wheel vibrations, which mimic a rumble strip, should the system detect an unintentional lane departure.
Lane-keeping aid actively applies steering torque, which alerts you to direct your vehicle back into the target lane should the system detect an unintended lane departure.
Adaptive Cruise Control and Forward Collision Warning
Activate the available adaptive cruise control and it functions just like normal cruise control— with one exception. When adaptive cruise control sensors detect traffic slowing immediately ahead of you, your vehicle also slows down, based on your preset distance. When its sensors detect traffic has cleared, your vehicle resumes the set speed. Forward collision warning with brake support will alert you if it senses a potential collision with the car in front of you. A “heads-up” display, which simulates brake lights, flashes on the windshield. If you don't react in time, the brakes will precharge and increase brake-assist sensitivity to provide full responsiveness when you brake.
On the SE model, adaptive cruise control requires 2.0L EcoBoost® engine and SE Technology Package. On SE Hybrid, adaptive cruise control requires SE Technology Package. Driver-assist features are supplemental and do not replace the driver's judgment.
Active Park Assist
While you're driving slowly near parking spots, simply activate available active park assist and it looks for an available parking spot. Ultrasonic sensors measure the distance to the curb and between parked cars. Once a spot that's big enough is identified, you're signaled to stop and accept the system's assistance. All you do is control the shifting, accelerating and braking.
